SCHOOL GROUP TOURS
Bluestone College of Knowledge provides school tours of Pentridge Prison's D Division and the surrounding prison grounds, offering students a unique interactive educational experience to learn about the prison's history.
Pentridge Prison is historically known for housing some of Australia's most notorious criminals, including infamous prisoners such as Edward “Ned” Kelly and Mark “Chopper” Read. It is also the place where 11 executions took place, including the hanging of the last man and woman in Australia.
Ex-prison officers lead these tours and offer firsthand experiences that provide students with unique educational knowledge about the prison's history, architecture, inner workings, the criminal justice system, and the importance of rehabilitation.
The tour explores the D Division cell block, which features 198 cells over 3 levels. These include the observation cells, the condemned cells, the gallows, and the prisoners' exercise yards.
Students will have time to explore the prison independently and can have their mug shots taken in front of a police lineup wall.
We also offer publications by Pentridge Voices, an organisation that presents real-life accounts of prison life as told by former criminals, prison officers, and anyone connected to Pentridge prison who has a story to tell. These stories are captured during interviews conducted by Pentridge Voices and filmed to preserve and present the history of those incarcerated or connected to Pentridge Prison.
